Moira McKenzie is a Melbourne based lawyer specialising in music, entertainment and intellectual property law. Having worked for over ten years at Sanicki Lawyers, Moira founded MML in 2021 to focus exclusively on providing expert legal services for the arts and entertainment industries.

A musician herself, prior to pursuing law Moira completed a Bachelor of Contemporary Music at Southern Cross University in Northern NSW. While completing her studies Moira worked for independent record label/distributor Vitamin Records and for Mullum Music Festival. These work experiences taught her about different aspects of the music industry and informed her passion for working in music.

In 2011 she joined boutique law firm Sanicki Lawyers, under the mentorship of Darren Sanicki, becoming Senior Associate in 2016. While at Sanicki Lawyers, Moira gained valuable experience working with a broad range of commercial and entertainment clients.

She has advised some of Australia’s best-known artists, managers, indie labels, producers, venues, promoters, music festivals, ticketing providers, start-ups, fashion and footwear brands, models, game and app developers, print media, visual artists and authors.

Some of the artists that Moira has worked with over the years include The Drones, Ecca Vandal, Felix Riebl (The Cat Empire), Alice Ivy, Felivand, Cat & Calmell, CLYPSO, and businesses such as Token Artists, Windsor Smith, The Naked Wolfe, Marketing Melodies and Cargo Crew. Moira has also worked to represent artists on TV shows including The Voice and The X Factor.

Over the years Moira has lectured in music business and copyright law at JMC, RMIT & NMIT and has previously served as on the boards of The Push and Music Victoria.

Moira regularly provides pro bono legal advice for the Arts Law Centre of Australia and has received the Arts Law Centre Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year Award four times. She has provided free legal assistance to music industry organisations and conferences including BIGSOUND, Face the Music, Changes, WAM, Q Music, Music Victoria and The Push.
